Lepidocide
Lepidocide is a composite preparation containing live cells (spores) of Bacillus thuringiensis and its δ-endotoxin (formed during the production process). In the intestine of the caterpillars, the spores germinate, cross the intestinal barrier, and enter the haemolymph, where the bacterium actively proliferates, causing septicaemia and death of the insect. Furthermore, the alkaline medium of the intestine favors proteolytic activation of δ-endotoxin and consequent lysis of intestinal epithelium, which is also fatal to the insect. Lepidocide is active against Loxostege sticticalis, Hyphantria cunea (fall webworm), Euproctis chrysorrhoea (brown-tail), Noctuidae, Pyralidae, Pieridae, Bombycidae, Geometridae, and Erebidae spp., as well as moths (e.g., Tortricidae spp.). Properties of Lepidocide:
How to useLepidocide is applied by spraying in morning or evening hours during mass appearance of catepillars. Doses in protected ground are in the range 15–30 l per hectare; the expenditure of the working solution is 1000 l per hectare (the working solution should be supplemented with Biona’s sticking agent Adjugrain, 0.5 l per hectare).
